Yes, and the 1099-NEC (replaces the 1099-MISC) is over $600, not $6,000.    But you must report all income whether you have a form or not.   And if self-employed you must file a tax return and pay the SE tax (Social Security and Medicare tax) on any income more then $400.

You should receive a Form 1099-NEC from door dash for the income you received as an independent contractor.

As an independent contractor you are required to report your income on a tax return whether or not you received a form if the gross amount received is $400 or more.

To report your income and expenses on Schedule C you will need to use the TurboTax Self-Employed online edition.  Or any of the TurborTax desktop editions.

However, if you are eligible you can use the TurboTax Free File Program which is available in mid-January.

If you are eligible you can use the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.

To qualify for free 2020 federal and state tax returns with the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:

  • A maximum 2020 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $39,000; or
  • You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
  • You served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a maximum 2020 AGI of $72,000 (you'll also need a military-issued W-2).
