Depends what kind of income you have.  You might have to file for less.

The Standard Deduction for an individual for whom an exemption can be claimed on another person's tax return is limited to the greater of:

…..$1,100 or

…..Your earned income for the year + $350 (but not more than 12,950)

So you would get a minimum of $1,100 to a max of 12,950.

You don't have to file if you only have W2 income under 12,950 but you can file to get back any withholding taken out in boxes 2 or 17. But you don't get boxes 4 or 6 back. If you got a 1099Misc or 1099NEC you have to file it as self employment income no matter how small the amount.

See Table 2 in the IRS Draft Publication 501 (2022) on page 4 for a Dependent filing a tax return - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/p501--dft.pdf

If you are not required to file a tax return but have had taxes withheld you should file for a tax refund.

for most taxpayers in your situation, the answer would be no. however, there are 7 special situations where the IRS requires a return regardless of income. they are in chart C of the 1040 instructions. also if there was federal income tax withholding or you are entitled to any federal tax credits, the only way to get them is to file. state filing requirements are usually different

"So if the income "

Seems like you did not complete your question.  But the replies above already explained to you that there may be situations in which you should file a tax return even if your income is below the standard deduction amount of $12,950.

First of all---if tax was withheld from your pay, as shown in boxes 2 and 17 of your W-2, will you want a refund of that money?  It is not a matter of "having" to file---it is a matter of seeking a tax refund.   The way to get a refund is to file a tax return.  You can file your own return even if you are someone else's dependent.   You just have to say in My Info that you can be claimed as someone else's dependent.

Others in this thread have already outlined possible scenarios in which you would need  to file.  You cannot get back anything that was withheld for Social Security or Medicare but you may get a refund of federal and/or state tax that was withheld.
