Short-term payment plans (up to 180 days)
If you can't pay in full immediately, you may qualify for additional time --up to 180 days-- to pay in full. There's no fee for this short-term payment plan. However, interest and any applicable penalties continue to accrue until your liability is paid in full. Individuals may be able to set up a short-term payment plan by using the Online Payment Agreement application or by calling the IRS.
There are no extensions for paying your tax due. An extension gives you more time to prepare your Form 1040. It does not give you more time to pay the IRS or your state. If you do not make a payment by April 15, 2025, your payment is late and you are subject to owing interest on the amount owed.

If you owe tax due, you have to pay it yourself by the filing deadline on April 15, 2025.
If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.
