I work in Europe and do not have a W2 for wages,.Is the only solution to state it as "miscellaneous income"? In 2017 I also have retirement income.

These are really wages, subject to local income tax, so "miscellaneous" doesn't seem appropriate. I do not have a W2, but the employer does issue an "wage certificate" from which I can draw all the figure.

You enter your income in the foreign earned income section, not in the W-2 section.

To enter Foreign Earned Income -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income
  • On Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion, click on the start or update button

Or enter foreign income in the Search/Find box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to foreign income

If you receive a Form 1099-R for the retirement income -

To enter a form 1099-R -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to 1099-R
