Were you on SSI or on Social Security?   Those are not the same thing, but a lot of people use the term "SSI" when they really mean Social Security.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND SSI?

https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-over-ussi.htm

If your ONLY 2020 income was Social Security  --  or SSI ---- then you are not required to file a tax return.   The recipients of Social Security or SSI were supposed to receive the stimulus payments automatically.    If you did not receive the 1st and/or 2nd EIP payments then you can file a 2020 tax return to use the recovery rebate credit to get the payments not received.   There is not a place to enter anything about the 3rd EIP payment on a 2020 tax return.   That one is sent separately by the IRS.  There have been three stimulus payments so far---did you receive them?

It is important that you know that you will not receive stimulus payments if anyone else claimed you as a dependent.

If you did NOT receive the stimulus payments and need to use the recovery rebate credit:

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the FEDERAL REVIEW section. ( you should see "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount”)  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

Make sure that you enter ALL of the stimulus money received for the 1st and 2nd stimulus for yourself, your spouse and your children.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are not taxable income and are not reported on your income tax return.

You are entitled to file a 2020 return even if you had no taxable income; if you did not receive a stimulus check in round 1 ($1200, April-July 2020) or round 2 ($600, December 2020-February 2021) then you would get a recovery rebate on your tax return.  You may need to create $1 of fake bank interest before you can file, since you can't e-file a tax return with no taxable income.  (This work-around will not cause problems with the IRS, they  know about it and it won't change your tax.)

If you already received the stimulus checks, you won't get more by filing a return.
