I want to purchase TurboTax desktop for Mac and download it to my laptop. Why is this option so difficult to navigate to? I cannot find this option clearly displayed.

I'm not sure exactly what you're having trouble finding. When you click "Buy Now" for the edition that you want, it will offer you a choice of Windows or Mac.
