TurboTax does not have an automatic 1099 import feature once your 1099's are available. You manually have to be in TurboTax and use the import feature yourself.
When I selected the "automatic import" function, it clearly stated that the 1099's would be "automatically imported" once they became available. I finally got a TurboTax "Help" person on the phone and she confirmed that the info would be automatically entered on my partially completed tax return. So which is it?

The only way to receive an imported Form 1099 is for you to start the import process. TurboTax has no way of knowing which, if any, Forms 1099 that would be entered on Your tax return.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for importing 1099's - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-import-my-1099/01/26254
