No. That won't work. Online TurboTax won't take any code on a CD. They are separate products with different fee structures. Did you buy it at a retailer or from TurboTax? If a retailer won't take it back, we can tell you how to submit an online refund request to TurboTax Support as long as it's within the first 60 days.
ADDENDUM: In a comment to follow this answer I also left info on how, if you wish to try, you can check with Support to see if they will let you use Online TurboTax based on your purchase. It's pretty tricky since the online product does not include a state return (requires extra fee), while the desktop Deluxe may or may not include a state program. And as I mentioned below, some online versions have form limitations, so you may need a higher edition. So it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. But I don't know what they will tell you.
If you are used to desktop TurboTax and now switch to Online TurboTax, be aware that online Deluxe has some limitations that the CD version does not have. Online Deluxe cannot prepare Schedules D, E, F, or Schedule C with expenses, and cannot enter a K-1. Online Premier or higher is required for Schedule D, E, or a K-1. Online Self-Employed is required for Schedule F or a Schedule C with expenses.
While desktop Deluxe can prepare multiple Federal returns, Online TurboTax can only prepare 1 Federal return per account. There is an additional preparation fee for a state return in the online version.
Unlike the desktop version, online TurboTax does not have Forms Mode for direct viewing, editing, or printing during return preparation.
If you prepared your 2017 return in desktop TurboTax, we can tell you how to upload your *.tax2017 data file to transfer into the 2018 return.
but I can not update my Mac's operating system to run. Is it possible to use the CD code to pay for the online version?

No, the TurboTax desktop and online editions are separate programs with different price points.
