Did you purchase a download from TurboTax? If so, you can re-download it.
Use this download link to retrieve your purchase:
https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/commerce/account/secure/login.jsp?pagecontext=download
Or this one : https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/app/downloads
If the download file isn't there, then look to see if you have multiple accounts (User IDs), and if the download might be in another account. To get a list of your User IDs and recover account access, you can use the tool at the link below. Try using your phone number first. Once you know all of your User IDs, then try each one at the download link I provided above.
NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.
https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery
If still no luck after running that on your phone number and each email address you have, then run the tool yet again, but this time choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.
I purchased it from Amazon online. How do I recover license code # ?
@tomhunter What did you purchase from Amazon? This thread started out with a question about 2017 software. There is no license code for 2017. The license codes began with 2019 software. And....TurboTax no longer supports nor provides updates for 2017 software.
Or did you purchase a different tax year and just add to this thread without realizing how old the thread is?
I purchased 2020 Premier from Amazon. Meanwhile , I bought a new computer and now I cannot open Turbotax. It asks for the license number which I do not have any longer.
Have you tried looking at your Amazon account and the Amazon order---that is where you bought the software. Going forward---avoid this problem by making a note of your license code when you purchase the software.
Or try this:

I was just having this same issue, but I just figured it out. So I thought I'd share in case you are still looking for an answer. Go to Your Account; then Digital Games and Software (under Digital Content and Devices section at the bottom middle); your TurboTax purchase should show there under Downloads and Codes; the license code will be the 16 digit code next to "Activation Key". Hope this helps!
Here's a screen shot I just made. I guess you should be able to find it under here,
note that if you install 2017 on a new computer updates are probably not available. opening the 2017 tax file with the non-updated app may change the results.
