You won't see a direct debit option in TurboTax if you owe IRS taxes and are paper-filing, but you can use the IRS's Direct Pay service, which lets you pay your taxes directly out of your checking or savings account—just like direct debit.
Reference: Can I use direct debit to pay the IRS even though I'm not e-filing?
It turns out I can't efile yet because Turbotax don't have the forms (2210) ready yet.
I have the same issue: I owe Federal but have a refund from NYS but I cannot direct debit from my account. It said I must e-file to have this option. And I want to e-file, I don’t know how to make it withdraw from my bank account. Some advice said I should try to log out then sign in and add a state but I could not find a sign in menu from my desktop version of turbo tax. Please help!!!
It sounds like you may have accidently selected the file by mail option. To change this please follow these steps in this TurboTax FAQ: How do I change from mail to e-file in TurboTax Online?
Follow the instructions in this TurboTax FAQ to contact customer support if you need further assistance: What is the TurboTax phone number?
