If you are filing your tax return as Married Filing Jointly then his SSA-1099 is entered on the Joint tax return.

If you are filing your tax return as Married Filing Separately then he would file his own tax return as Married Filing Separately and enter his SSA-1099 on his tax return.

You would need to create a new TurboTax account for him you and he are filing separately.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for starting another tax return using the online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/start-another-return-turbotax...

Are you and your spouse filing as married filing separately?   If so, then his SSA1099 goes on his own separate tax return and you will have to follow all of the rules for filing that way.   If you are filing a joint return then the SSA1099 goes on the joint return.  Your spouse will need his own account and user ID and you will pay two separate TurboTax fees for the returns.

If you were legally married at the end of 2021 your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately.

Married Filing Jointly is usually better, even if one spouse had little or no income. When you file a joint return, you and your spouse will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $25,100 (+$1350 for each spouse 65 or older)  You are eligible for more credits including education credits, earned income credit, child and dependent care credit, and a larger income limit to receive the child tax credit.

If you choose to file married filing separately, both spouses have to file the same way—either you both itemize or you both use standard deduction. Your tax rate will be higher than on a joint return. Some of the special rules for filing separately include: you cannot get earned income credit, education credits, adoption credits, or deductions for student loan interest. A higher percent of your Social Security benefits may be taxable. Your limit for SALT (state and local taxes and sales tax) will be only $5000 per spouse. In many cases you will not be able to take the child and dependent care credit. The amount you can contribute to a retirement account will be affected. If you live in a community property state, you will be required to provide additional information regarding your spouse’s income. ( Community property states:  AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI)

If  you are using online TurboTax to prepare your returns, you will need to prepare two separate returns and pay twice.

In My Info you are asked if you were married.   The next question asks if you want to file together with your spouse.  If you want to file as married filing separately, you say NO to that question, and then you will set up the separate return.

You should ask Optima Tax Relief to clarify exactly what they want you to do. Check with them to make sure you are doing it the way they want you to.
