If you are getting a refund or do not owe, there is no penalty for filing after the deadline. If you are getting a refund you have three years to file the tax return. E-filing for 2023 returns will remain open until mid-October of 2024.
Do I need to file an extension for that? And since Id.me is unresponsive, and I can’t access the option in TurboTax, is there anything I can do in the meantime except pray? So much stress.
No. If you do not owe, you do not need to file an extension.
You do not need an extension if you do not owe. You say you either will not owe or will be getting a refund. No need to stress over it so much. You will still be able to e-file it up til mid-October, so when you get your IP PIN under control, you can e-file.
