I just e-filed my 2023 tax returns ahead of the April 15 deadline. But I got a message that IRS rejected it because the AGI for 2022 was incorrect. It was not wrong.

I checked the 2022 AGI against my 2022 tax return which was filed by mail. My number was correct, so I re-filed using e-file. A few minutes later, the return was rejected by IRS for the same reason. How do I fix this?

Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time.  Especially if you mailed it.  That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

Thanks for the suggestion of entering a 0 figure for the AGI in Turbotax Deluxe. At first the return was still rejected, but then a few minutes later, I received another email stating that both Federal and State returns were accepted, saving me the tremendous hassle of putting together a paper return and mailing it.

Thanks again,
