I entered the wrong Self-selected PIN in turbo tax for my 2021 taxes. I have the correct self selected PIN from 2020 taxes now in hand. Can you please tell me how to edit my self selected pin in turbo tax?
You can go back through the File section of your return to enter the PIN.
Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ on the Self Select PIN.

I tried to e-file my 2021 federal return using my 2020 AGI and a pin that I created (one doesn't need to use last year's pin). My returns was repeatedly rejected by the IRS. I found in another post that changing 2020 AGI to zero might help. It did, and my return was immediately accepted.
Glad to hear that you were able to get your return accepted by entering zero for the AGI - thanks for the update @markjay.
Forgot my PIN and I got lost in finding and providing AGI of last year. Box 11 apparently does not work. Evidently the best shall be the PIN #. Who can help me, and how much I have to pay?
Thanks
You can use any PIN number that you choose. If e file tax return is refused, try putting zero in AGI box. Mine was accepted after that.
i forgot my 5 digit irs code from last year
Nothing to worry about. You can now create a new pin every year. If return is rejected, try changing AGI to zero.

Go to this IRS website to retrieve your IP PIN - https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin
Working on trying to get a return filed without having the self-selected pin... We DO NOT have it, we have looked on other past returns to find the number, it is NOT on any Federal Information Worksheet in our records...
Using advice from these threads to use the AGI OR the Pin.... DOES NOT WORK. Stop giving that "or" advice, please. TurboTax is REQUIRING it be input. There is no "OR."
I am attempting this several ways, I'll get back with you and tell you what I tried and IF anything worked.
Seems like a big issue TurboTax needs to resolve for the customers.
If I can pull up past TurboTax programs with my own, secure login credentials and backup verification codes...it should make it accessible to retrieve the self-selected pin used in the past!!
BTW, the AGI is correct, it has been checked, double checked and confirmed with a transcript from the IRS.
@TammySue Go to this IRS website for information on e-filing - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/electronic-filing-pin-request
As stated on the IRS website - When self-preparing your taxes and filing electronically, you must sign and validate your electronic tax return by entering your prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or your prior-year Self-Select PIN.
If you do not have the prior year 5 digit self-selected PIN then for tax year 2021 you can enter any 5 digit number for the PIN. The 2020 AGI is used to verify your 2021 tax return for e-filing.
If the 2020 AGI is being rejected by the IRS, even though you entered the correct 2020 AGI from the 2020 Form 1040 Line 11, then there is a very good possibility that the IRS does not have your 2020 AGI in their database.
Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.
Thank you, just tried that. Used "$0" for AGI and a new 5-digit, self-selected pin.
The previous year's return was filed late and mailed in. Although they processed that return and sent the refund already - and we have an official IRS transcript of it...showing the correct AGI...(you'd THINK it would be in their system) -
But evidently, it's not really!
SUCCESS! So, even though you may have a transcript from a late filed, mailed return....it it is getting rejected with the correct AGI... put in a $0 for the AGI; and, make up a new, self-selected pin - and it should get accepted!
Thank you, again, so much for your advice.
"If you do not have the prior year 5 digit self-selected PIN then for tax year 2021 you can enter any 5 digit number for the PIN. "
I suggest that you should leave the prior year 5 digit self-selected PIN EMPTY. You can id-verify with EITHER AGI or PIN.
After that, TurboTax should give you the option to select your new 5-digit PIN for next year.
@DoninGA Doesn't it do that?
I don't e-File with TurboTax so I don't know the screens.
@fanfare The TurboTax software requires that a 5 digit PIN be entered along with the prior year AGI.
If TurboTax was used for the prior year and was transferred to the current tax year TurboTax program the prior year 5 digit PIN is also transferred along with the prior year AGI.
On the Federal Information Worksheet the 5 digit PIN used for e-filing is located on page 4 of the Worksheet.
