What's my Self-Select PIN, and how is this year's PIN different from the one I made last year?
Your signature ID (also called a Self-Select PIN) is a random 5-digit number you entered last year, right before you submitted your return. You can use it to verify your identity on this year's return.
Note: It's not the 6-digit e-filing PIN you may have gotten from the IRS last year.
We don't store your signature ID in your account and it's not on your printouts. If you forgot last year's signature ID, you'll need to provide your 2024 adjusted gross income (AGI) for verification purposes.
You'll be able to use this year's signature ID to verify next year's return, so make sure you record it.
What's the difference between the five-digit Self-Select PIN I created last year and my Self-Select PIN this year?
For the purpose of signing your electronic return, they’re the same. You can reuse your Self-Select PIN from last year or create a new one to use. It doesn’t matter which option you choose.
For identification purposes, you need to enter either last year’s Self-Select PIN or adjusted gross income (AGI).
