When you filed jointly you should have had his name on the return along with yours and all of his income should have been included in the return as well. So your joint return included him and he needs to do nothing further.
If you "filed jointly", your spouse also filed jointly. That is, the tax return filed was not just your return (because you were listed first), it was a tax return for both of you.
A Joint return is one return combined for the both of you. Did you enter all his info and income on it with yours?
