I entered the same W-2 twice, what do I do?

If you have not filed your tax return yet, you will delete the W-2.  Go to the Federal tab, choose Wages and Income, then choose Job (W-2).  This will bring you to a screen where you can delete a W-2.

If you have filed your tax return, you will need to amend your tax return.  This will be available in TurboTax around the middle of February.  Amending is a simple process in TurboTax.  I will provide instructions below.

You will need to wait until the IRS receives and processes your original return.  Wait until you receive the refund on your original tax return (or your check clears if you had to send a payment).

I entered the same w2 twice, and filed. Will IRS reject my return? Has this happened to anyone?

This happened to me. I’m supposed to be getting a 3000 refund and instead the IRS accepted my duplicated W2 and I’m out 6000 dollars. I will not be giving TurboTax the authority to debit my account in the future. As far as I can tell, the 1040X will be out March 25th and there’s nothing we can do till then. I may be requesting a tax advocate due to being out so much money. Especially now that the tax bill was passed and I will not qualify for the stimulus if it’s based on my current taxes that were filed incorrectly. Good luck! Absolutely ridiculous and TurboTax needs to fix the bug in their system!

It just happened to me when I filed for an amend to add my College 1098-T. I went through and submitted the amend but come to find out it put a duplicate copy of my W2 in and now the irs thinks I made exactly twice the income I actually made and I can’t figure out how to fix it

You have to file a 1040x and amend your taxes. I ended up paying a tax preparer to do it. I amended in March and I’m still waiting to get all my money back.

See Second Amendment instructions.  Be sure to save a copy of your amended return already filed before you begin. The last column of your amended return should be the first column of your second amended return. Don't forget your state return.

My question is TurboTax entered my W2 twice my gross was 18,000. 15k and some change from unemployment and 2k and some change from employer. Well I didn't catch it in time and the total AGI says 33 and some change!!! How do I correct this? I have been audited and finally out of that nightmare, so money will be released in a couple days, but AGI still shows 33k. Do I do amendment to get the correct AGI? Please help

You don't have to amend your federal return if you were audited and the IRS corrected everything. @Luyuana.

You can amended your state return to get a refund. 

I need to amend my state return

If you have no state tax or don't want to amend, you can go back into TurboTax and make corrections for your own records. You don't need to do this because your records are correct on the IRS side.

To correct your info in TurboTax, sign in and select Add a State to get back into your account. Delete the duplicate information.
