I'm using a PC
Navigate to the folder in your file explorer - zipped files always in their own folder and usually in downloads unless you specified a different location. When you open the folder, on the toolbar, you'll see an icon that says "Extract all" - click on that and follow the instructions. You'll have your file!

If you downloaded a TurboTax desktop edition, it is NOT a zip file. If it is a Windows installation file it will have a file extension of .exe. If it is a Mac installation file it will have a file extension of .dmg.
Where did you get the TurboTax file?

Additionally, if you save a desktop 2023 tax return it will have a file extension of .tax2023 and it can only be opened by the TurboTax desktop edition for tax year 2023.
Thank you but I am a nurse and anything related to numbers is Greek to me. I don't understand how I would open that. My sister always helped me with this and she died in September and I am on my own. I cannot proceed without the 2023 return. I have all the others back to 2019 but can't open this one.
Thanks
This is what happens:
I open intuit and there is a file that says Turbo-tax-My Docs 2023
I click on that and Personal has under it:
Documents>Turbotax-My Docs 2023 I click the box beside it and click Download
I go to my Downloads and right click "Extract All" get message The compressed folder is empty.
I right click and hit compress to zip file - another line opens with a zipper on the folder - I R click Extract all
Get another window
C:\Users\rosie\Downloads\Turbotax - My Docs 2023-2025_03_19 (2)
- Another window opens
box checked show extracted files when complete I click on the extract button at bottom
Download folder - (I cannot copy) it is the compressed folder again with the zipper on it
It's not a desktop, I did the 2023 taxes online last year. It shows up on my docs in turbo tax but I can't unzip and open it.
In the second popup window, it’s telling you where the extracted documents are going. After you hit the extract all button, use your file explorer to navigate to the new folder. It should be there. If you don’t see it, try navigating up a level and back down to get the window to refresh. Don’t go back to the zipped folder.
