I am trying to enter quarterly tax payments. I entered the first payment date of 01/07/2020, the box turned red and I got this message "Cannot be before 01/01/2020."

I got the same error message for a second quarter date of 03/13/2020 even though neither date is before 01/01/2020.

The due dates of the estimated payments are confusing. The fourth quarter payment is in January of the following year. The payments for 2020 were not due at the usual dates. The second quarterly estimated payment is usually due on April 15, but for 2020 it was due on July 15. As long as you don't enter the date paid as earlier than the usual date, you should not have a problem entering the payments.

For tax year 2020, the dates were:

  1. July 15, 2020 (formerly April 15)
  2. July 15, 2020 (formerly June 15)
  3. September 15, 2020
  4. January 15, 2021

A first payment for 2020 taxes is OK in January of 2020

But, it it was truly the first 2020 payment

then....Usually that error shows because you entered

01/07/20

You need to enter

01/07/2020
