Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I am filing as Single, and have selected the "divorced" option. Why is turbotax still phrasing questions as if I need to answer them for my ex-spouse, as well as myself?

I don't want to keep looking at my ex's name throughout the process, or answer questions with buttons formatted to say, "yes, we did," or "no, we didn't. Please make it stop!

"Divorced" is not a filing status for a tax return.  You were asked if you were divorced in order to lead you to questions about alimony, etc.  Your filing status will be either Single or Head of Household (if you have a qualifying dependent.)

You should not be using the same TT account now if you got divorced since the last time you filed a tax return if that was a joint return.  Create a new account with a new user ID for yourself.  It is too hard to get all the spouse stuff out of an account or to remove it if it transferred over from your last return.

I don’t have the online program so I’m not sure what you mean by “the divorced option “. If you were unmarried at the end of the year you just file as single. There is no reason to deal with any divorce choice. The only other filing choice for you would be Head of Household if you have a qualifying child living with you.

If you used Turbo Tax last year you should start a brand new account for yourself and not transfer from last year.  You can not remove a spouse or switch the order of names.

Online is only good for 1 return.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version
