You can still file your tax return. If you are due a refund you will not be subject to any penalties or interest. If you owe you will likely be charged a late payment penalty and interest.
If you are due a refund you have until 4/18/2019 to file your return and claim your refund. You can still file a return after that date but you will not receive your refund. If you owe your penalties and interest will continue to increase. The IRS can eventually create a return for you from the information they have, like W-2's, 1099's, etc. and base your tax due on that amount. If you do not file or pay from that point the IRS can levy your bank account and garnish your wages. Not filing a return when you owe taxes can get really ugly. You are usually better off filing and making payments.
