Normally it takes about 8 weeks when the Form 8379 is filed separately after a joint return has been processed.
Here's how to reach a live agent at the IRS:
IRS: 800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri
Listen to each menu before making the selection.
First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

IRS will not give information if they have received form 8379, people can understand 8,11,14, but they cant not understand if it has been processed or not if they don't say it. That is not too much to ask. I mailed my 8379 by it self May 20th, I don't know if they have it or not. I would like to know. How do I find out!!!!!!!!
it has been 8 weeks
eight weeks, if they say 8 weeks , what will be the hold up if has been mailed by it self? GET MY PAYMENT do not give any other information, So is there a problem?
irs is not being honest, first of all they will hang up if you give them any personal information, its been 17 weeks for me the only info they gave was more checks suppose to be mailed out sept,2020
@2much A number of users have posted to this thread. It sounds like you mailed an injured spouse form to the IRS--is that right? Even if you mailed it quite awhile ago, the IRS stopped opening mailed returns and piled the the mail up in trailers for several months during the pandemic. They recently began to open over 11 million pieces of mail. Chances are your injured spouse form is in that pile somewhere. Until they find it and open it and begin processing it, you will not be able to find out anything about it, unfortunately.
I get the information from get my payment on May 15th, its been 17 weeks nothing has changed, besides the info I give do not match, feeling left out, but surviving.
Sorry but the normal processing time frames cannot be relied upon this year ... due to the covid shut down earlier this year anything requiring human interaction is taking much longer ... expect the 8379 to take 5 months or more to process and there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. Be patient and check the IRS site once a week until you see progress ... https://www.irs.gov/refunds
