How long is an extension on taxes

But it is only an extension to file the return.  Any tax due was still due on April 15.  If you pay late the IRS might bill you for Penalty and interest.

Ok.. that's fine and all but how long do you get?

An extension is until October 15.  But if you are getting a refund you have 3 years to file.  But you can only efile until October 15.  After that you have to print and mail.
