This reject code means that you were claimed as a Dependent. In order to indicate that you are being claimed as a dependent, please follow these instructions:
This reject code means that the person with the Primary SSN on your tax return -- the taxpayer listed first -- has been claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return, and you didn't indicate on your own return that someone else would be able to claim this person.
If no one else should've been able to claim this person on their return, you'll need to print and mail your return. You won't be able to e-file.
On the other hand, if someone did have the right to claim the person with the Primary SSN on the return, please follow Rachel_W's instructions above.
Please see the TurboTax Help articles "How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online?" or "How do I print and mail a return in the TurboTax for Windows CD/Download software?" as appropriate for the instructions on filing your return by mail.
well thats pretty stupid that i have to wait days for someone illegally filing me on their taxes by sending what ever in by not being able to e-file it . it should be the other way around
Well it is not ... a SS# can only be efiled once ... the second person MUST mail in a return ... then the IRS will decide who was wrong.
How do i go about doing that.
If you are getting the error message that the dependent social security number has already been used on another return, you will not be able to e-File this year.
You will need to update your selection in TurboTax to "File by Mail" and then print the return and mail it to the address that is given on the cover sheet that will print with it.
Then if what the dependent who finished tax return should do while parents submit their tax return by mail?
If you do nothing IRS will contact you or your dependent.
This could take a while, since IRS is very backed up.
If that person admits a mistake, that is the end of it.
If they don't, IRS will contact the other taxpayer.
Somebody has to admit a mistake.
I want to send amend the form to IRS but it seems like 1040x does not have a section that I need to fix. which part should I write on 1040X to fix this?
