How do I purchase additional state (CA) for year 2017?

You get a free state program download when you use the Desktop program.  If you need a second different state you buy it directly in the Desktop program.  You have to use the Desktop program to finish a prior year return.  How to finish a prior year online return   https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4186197

You will need to download the online .tax2017 file to open in the Desktop program to add a state return.
