Did you have dividends reported on a K-1 form by chance you forgot about ? They are added to the dividends you entered from a 1099-DIV.
Ordinary dividends or Qualified Dividends?
What was reported on the Form 1099-DIV you received?
What is shown on your Form 1040 Lines 3a and 3b?
Look at your Form 1040 -
Click on Tax Tools
Click on Tools
Click on View Tax Summary
Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen
To report dividend income received -
Enter dividend income in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to dividend income
On the screen Did you receive any dividend income? select Yes
Continue on the next screen
On the screen Let's import your tax info select Change how I enter my form
On the screen How do you want to enter your 1099‑DIV? select Type it in myself
Did you have dividends reported on a K-1 form by chance you forgot about ? They are added to the dividends you entered from a 1099-DIV.
You have to recheck everything to find out where that difference comes from.
Do not use override.
Save a PDF of the return ad look at the dividend worksheet to see where the total comes from.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.
Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
This is exactly what happened- the business had dividends reported on the K-1 which transferred to the 1040.
