In the filing process you can simply choose to file your 1040 Federal Tax Return only.
You can suppress the filling of your state.
Thanks - how do I navigate to the screen you have identified? For some reason, I am having a hard time doing so
Using the TurboTax online editions, click on File on the left side of the online program screen. On Step 3 click on Revisit. Click on the box File by Mail. For the state tax return click on Change. Select I'm not ready to file and click on Save
Thanks again. I don’t see a file menu - I’ve been looking for it for 15 minutes now. Not sure why I can’t find it. Any help is appreciated
@carl-j-slater Are you using the TurboTax online editions to complete and file your tax return?
If so, you must be signed onto your TurboTax online account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
And you must be accessing the TurboTax 2024 online tax return and have accessed one of the section of the tax return for the links on the left side of the online program to be available, such as accessing Personal Info, Wages & Income, Deductions & Credits, etc.
However, if you are using the TurboTax desktop software installed on your personal computer, then you need to Continue your tax return. Then click on the File tab at the top of the desktop program screen. When in the File section, click on E-file. On the next screen for the state tax return select Do not e-file my state return now
Hi - I am using the on-line version but, when I have been accessing one of the sections as referenced below, the only option that comes up is “Tax Tools” which includes the subsections “Tools” and “Print Center”. I have been unable for several hours now to make the “File” menu appear for some reason

If you click Tax Tools a second time, it collapses part of the menu. It's like a toggle. You may need to collapse other parts of the left menu if they are expanded. Or you can move/scroll the whole left menu up and down. Part of the menu is likely hidden behind a smaller bottom menu which doesn't move. But if you move the whole menu up, the FILE tab will probably come into view. Hopefully, that's what you meant.
When you sign onto your account you should see this -
Selecting one of the sections and click on Review/Edit or Continue will get you the following screen with the links available on the left side -
