Turbo Tax recommended that I use my itemized deductions of $13,600 instead of the standard $12,000 deduction because that saves me money - only Turbo Tax calculates that my taxes INCREASE based on the higher itemized deduction and that my taxes go DOWN when I take the standard deduction. Something has gone wrong with the calculations and I need help.
I already wasted my time with the customer service number where folk who know even less about taxes than I do read from scripts but offer no help of any kind and have no idea about any technical issues.

Because other items in your return may affect the overall refund or balance due, just taking bigger standard deduction instead of itemized deductions will not always give you the biggest refund. In most cases, the bigger number will reduce your overall taxes, but not in all cases. If the smaller deduction increases your refund, that is the way to go. You may be getting benefits from other areas of your return.
