IDENTITY PIN
Per the IRS:
Taxpayers who previously have been issued an Identity Protection PIN but lost it, must use the Get an IP PIN tool to retrieve their numbers. Taxpayers who have an IP PIN need to provide it when they file their return.
Where do I find my AGI?
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/how-do-i-find-last-year-s-agi/01/25947
Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.
Form 1040 line 8b
If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Home for 2019
If entering the amount from your 2019 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead. If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2019 AGI may not be in the system.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1944348-how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online
Note: If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return. You will not be able to e-file your state return.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1944348-how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online
it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail. Then you will know the IRS received it.
If you used the wrong AGI, your e-file be rejected. When you get the rejection notice, correct it and re-file.

For some reason I lost my and my wife's 5 digit electronic signature number for electronic filing. The answers I see say line 38 but the return I printed out doesn't have the 5 digit number. How do I retrieve our numbers?
The Self-Select PIN is a 5-digit number that you chose last year and is NOT kept in TurboTax. Only you have access to it. You can create a new one instead. I like to use my zip code, just easy to remember.
If you need your last year's AGI, here is a TurboTax article that explains How to find last year's AGI.
This year I was using HR Block. When I get to that section to add that five digit number, it doesn't show how to create or find it? I tried the help/search section and couldn't find how to do it? Any ideas? Should I go back to Turbotax and try there?
5 digit

Are you asking about your 5-digit Self-Select PIN from last year to verify your efiling? If so, you're not required to use your 5-digit Self-Select PIN from last year. See the following explanation:
When efiling, there are a couple of places where TurboTax might ask you about a 5-digit PIN. In the section where you verify your efiling, TurboTax may ask you to provide either the 2020 AGI or your prior-year Self-Select PIN. Many, if not most, people use the 2020 AGI instead; i.e., you can choose the AGI field and use the 2020 AGI and leave the PIN field blank.
However, if you're asking about a later screen (may be titled "Signature ID") that asks you for a 5-digit PIN and also has your birth date and today's date, that screen says to use "any 5 digits of your choosing." In that field you can either use the same PIN as last year (for those who still have it), or you can make a new one. Whatever you enter there can be used again next year.
That being said, if you DO want to try to find your 5-digit Self-Select PIN from last year, you may be able to retrieve it if you have a full PDF of your 2020 return that includes the worksheets, or can download one from your Online TurboTax account if you used the Online version last year. Look for a worksheet called "Federal Information Worksheet", and the PIN should be near the bottom of that worksheet.
How do I get my ip pin for my taxes
Thanks. Best explanation I've gotten

If you are required to use a 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) due to tax-related identity theft, you may have been mailed a CP01A letter from the IRS in late December/January with your IP PIN for this year. If you didn't get your letter or lost it, you can possibly get your IP PIN online at the IRS website as explained below.
People who opted-in to the IP PIN program are not mailed a CP01A letter, but can retrieve their IP PIN each year at the IRS website.
If you have any trouble getting your IP PIN at the IRS website at the link below, you will see a phone number there for the IRS identity protection specialized unit. If they can identity you on the phone, they will postal mail you your IP PIN.

This solution does not work for TY2021. Now you must provide BOTH last year's AGI AND last year's 5-digit code. If you did not use a 5 digit code last year, there seems to be no way around this. I bought Turbotax in order to efile, but now I have to paper file and wait who knows how many months for my refund.
This was OK for TY 2020 but not for TY 2021. Now you must provide both the AGI and the 5 digit code from last year, even if last year you did not use a code.

No, that's not the case; it's an either/or situation. Many people (if not most) when efiling do not even have the 5-digit PIN from last year. And many folks are efiling a return for the very first time or didn't file last year and wouldn't have one anyway. When verifying your return for efiling, you're not required to use your 5-digit Self-Select PIN from last year. However, you will be asked to choose a new 5-digit PIN on another screen where you sign the return, as I'll explain below. So first, see the following explanation:
When efiling, there are a couple of places where TurboTax might ask you about a 5-digit PIN. In the section where you verify your efiling, TurboTax may ask you to provide either the 2020 AGI or your prior-year Self-Select PIN. A lot of people didn't save their 2020 PIN, so many people (if not most) use the 2020 AGI instead to verify their 2021 return; i.e., you can choose the AGI field and use the 2020 AGI and leave the PIN field blank.
However, if you're asking about a later screen (may be titled "Signature ID") that asks you for a 5-digit PIN and also has your birth date and today's date, that screen says to use "any 5 digits of your choosing." That being said, if you efiled a return last year and want to try to find your 5-digit Self-Select PIN from last year, you may be able to retrieve it if you have a full PDF of your 2020 return that includes the worksheets, or can download one from your Online TurboTax account if you used the Online version last year. Look for a worksheet called "Federal Information Worksheet", and the PIN "might" be near the bottom of page 4 of that worksheet. Desktop users (CD/download) should also be able to find that worksheet in the forms list of their 2020 program.
ADDENDUM
In addition to the long answer I provided you directly above about the prior-year Self-Select PIN and how it is not required, here is some more info:
You didn't mention if you have already tried to efile and received a rejection error message about the 2020 AGI or PIN. If you are getting an efile rejection, here are some tips when using the 2020 AGI:
I have my old 2020 taxes (short forms) and tried using my AGI. I also tried not including the 5 digit pin but Turbo tax wouldn't put it through saying it was required. I also tried all zero's. Had to do that a few years ago! Thanks I believe I have some old forms and will look there as I normally electronic file. This year I just mailed it in as Turbo Tax couldn't give the info I needed.
