If you are required to use a 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) due to tax-related identity theft, you may have been mailed a CP01A letter from the IRS in late December/January with your IP PIN for this year. If you didn't get your letter or lost it, you can possibly get your IP PIN online at the IRS website as explained below.
People who opted-in to the IP PIN program are not mailed a CP01A letter, but can retrieve their IP PIN each year at the IRS website.
If you have any trouble getting your IP PIN at the IRS website at the link below, you will see a phone number there for the IRS identity protection specialized unit. If they can identity you on the phone, they will postal mail you your IP PIN.
