How do I change my filing status?

Enter or change your filing status in MY INFO.

To change you filing status in TurboTax:

1. Open your return
2.  Go to your Personal Info and Continue
3. Select your name and Edit
4. Continue until you get to the About your household screen
5. Select what your marital status was on December 31, 2024
6. The program will ask the necessary questions depending on your situation to select the appropriate filing status is for you.

Program recognizes dependent qualifying person or non dependent child and still won’t allow head of household status. Spent hours on phone with support to no avail. They couldn’t figure out why or more importantly how to change it. Uninstalled program and reinstalled program yet it still wouldn’t work. Need an update to correct the bug or glitch in program. Going to use another program which will allow head of household status to avoid this glitch.

The return will be "sanitized", meaning all names, social security numbers and personal references are removed.

We will then be able to determine the source of the issue.

1. Log into your TurboTax account
2. Go to Tax Tools
3. Then select Tools
4. On the pop-up screen select Share my file with Agent
5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
