You can't attach the actual 1099R to your return if you efile. You can if you print and mail your return. You should keep a copy with your records if the IRS sends you a letter and wants to see it. Did you get a letter? How do you know the IRS wants to see it?
If your Form 1099-R shows tax withholding, TurboTax automatically includes the details of the Form 1099-R in your e-filing. If there is no tax withholding shown, there is no requirement to provide a copy of the Form 1099-R.
Just to be sure, if I E-file, I do not need to somehow upload and include the actual physical 1099-R and 1099-B documents that are required if I print and mail my return?
Correct. @cinmgil If you e-file, you do not mail anything. If you file by mail, include copies of your tax forms.
BUT, you do keep those forms for several years (I suggest 7 or more), just in case the IRS, or the State tax department decides to ask questions, or perhaps to actually audit you. That can be a either a random check, or something they "think" you might have entered wrong.
The IRS sent me a letter in 2021 and 2022. This year, THEY DID NOT! Yippee! Refund happened!
