how can i download my turbotax software without my family members tax information showing up? We use the same computer.

Each time I download my turbotax software to do my 2024 taxes it shows my family members 2024 tax information that they already completed. How can I change this so that my downloaded turbotax software shows up and not theirs?.

since you are using online each taxpayer's filing must be done using a separate account. each account needs its own unique ID but the same e-mail address can be used for up to 5 accounts. doing a second taxpayer's return in an account will complete overwrite and eliminate the first return done with do ability to recover the first.

Are you using the Desktop program that has the menu items going across to top?   Just go up to File-New Tax Return.   You don’t need to download the software again.  The Desktop installed program can do unlimited returns and efile 5.   Can you explain more of what you are trying to do and how?  Are you on Windows or Mac?

Oh, could it be this?    If you do another return for someone else like your child and their name is the same or similar to yours then it might overwrite your return.  You have to save each return with different names so you can tell them apart.  Like if your name is John and your son is also named John it will save them with the same name so the second one will overwrite the first return.  Go to File-SaveAs and give it a unique name.

Please clarify whether you are using TurboTax Online or the desktop TurboTax software. Mike9241 thinks you are using TurboTax Online. VolvoGirl thinks you are using the desktop software.

The tag below your question says you are using TurboTax Online. But when you use TurboTax Online you don't download anything. You sign into your TurboTax Online account on the Internet through your web browser. If you are using TurboTax Online you have to use a separate account for each family member.

"Download" means transmitting a software installation file from TurboTax to your computer. If you are using the desktop TurboTax software you have to download the software and install it on your own computer. To use the installed software you click an icon on your computer screen. There is no tax information for anyone in the downloaded software file. When you save a tax return in the desktop software you create a tax return data file on your computer. You have to save each family member's tax return with a different file name.

Use  CTL-N to start another tax return, i.e. your own.

If you are using the downloaded software, it can have an indefinite number of returns, they are separate files, the same as if you installed Microsoft Word and had many different word documents.

If you need to start a new return, use control-N or find New Return in the menu.

If you want to not be able to see other tax return documents on the same computer, the owners of these documents would have to password protect them to lock you out.
