Handling of Overpayment this does not appear - likely because I am now in “amend” mode and no tax or overpayment is showing up. The problem with TurboTax is that once you pay for the service and select paper filing then your only option to make any fixes or edits must involve amending your taxes since TurboTax makes an assumption that I have already filed my taxes! No, I choose paper filing because I want to delay the filing until the very last day before I write the check! But in order to SEE these small mistakes I need to actually SEE the taxes as created on the screen or printed out. But then it’s too late. This is the main reason why next year I will search out other tax preparation software. TurboTax has become too controlling and makes a wrong assumption.
See if you can find the spot to remove the amended tax return....that should clear it. (not sure where that is anymore)

Here's what you "Should Have" done....after indicating you would mail it in, and then coming back later...yes...you needed to get back into your file without amending.
You would have done that by clicking on the "Add a State" on that main menu page....(NOT on the Amend selection). That would have let you back into yoru file to just edit what already existed....AND you wouldn't have actually had to add a state.
Thank you Steamytrain. I did discover that too late. It would seem logical that TurboTax would allow pre-filing correction for paper filers. I have been using it for over 15 years. Up until a few years ago I could actually see a screen of what my taxes looked like even before paying (which likely was changed when people perhaps copied the info and didn’t ever pay for it).
As to having the wherewithal of asking about how to sneak into my taxes through “Add another State”, the amending of my return was never such a “crises” until this year for me when TurboTax now created extra amending pages for my return and produced a series of questions implying “why should I dare to amend this!”. Again it’s probably some feared way of getting without paying but it was too heavy handed for me. In the end, since I was paper filling, I just corrected the mistake on the taxes with whiteout and printed new pages.
