My return was filed and accepted, but just never came into my banking account.

It is possible that your refund was seized by the Treasury Department or a state (depending on which refund you did not get) to pay a debt.

However, if this had happened, you should have gotten a letter from that agency reporting what they did and why.

You can call the Treasury Offset Program and ask if there was an "offset" against your refund from last year. Please see Treasury Offset Program.
