Form SSA 1099

Received 2021 SSA1099 with entries in Box 4 and Box 5. Box 5 is a negative showing repayment of 2020 benefits in 2021.

Entry does not populate onto 1040 form.

Should this repayment reduce my AGI or how is this handled? Thx

Any negative number in Box will not show in form 1040 as a negative number and reduce your taxable income.

The amount of Social security income that is taxable is calculated as per the worksheet and if it is negative, taxable social security income is 0.

Put info into SSA1099 and can't get it out. I do not have a SSA1099 or any other of the HSA or Medicare Advantage. It wont let me get rid of it and I cant file my taxes with it on the paperwork.

Form SSA-1099 is for Social Security. Form 1099-SA is for HSA distributions.

So is the TurboTax Review telling you you have an HSA but you don't?

It's easier than you think to accidentally indicate to TurboTax that you have an HSA when you don't. To delete all HSA information, please do the following:

1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)

2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen)

*** Desktop***

3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form (see below). Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.

*** Online ***

3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form

4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)

5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually

6. continue with your return.
