The $28,900 is carried over from Sec 179 worksheet. Line 12 has the amount $25,000.00. The calculations on Form 3885A looks correct. However, the review is flagging an error. What is the error and how do I fix it?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The $25,000 reported on line 12 is actually the maximum dollar deduction that is allowed to be taken for California for Section 179. Please see the instructions for California here.
As far as your error message, can you tell us what it says?
If you are not getting an actual message, another option is to provide a TurboTax ".tax2023" file that is experiencing this issue so we can take a look at your return. This will allow us to look at your return and help determine what the issue is and provide you with a solution.
If this is something you'd like to do, and you are using TurboTax desktop, on your menu bar at the very top, click Online and then Send Tax File to Agent.
When you click to send, you will get a pop-up asking you if you want to send a diagnostic copy for an agent. Select send and then you will get another popup with a token number.
Reply with the token number and I’ll be able to open a TurboTax file with your numbers but not your personal information.
I am also getting the same error. Is there a solution?
The tech support was able to guide me to override the number and re-enter the amount (25,000 is the max CA limit)
I am also having problems with this form 3885A line 12. It is giving me an error even though the total on that line is the maximum of $25,000. How do I satisfy this error so I can send my return? Thanks for your assistance with this.
You'll need to override the value in line 12 (in Desktop right-click & override) and then input the 25,000 back. Seems like there is some internal glitch that doesn't let TT recognize the calculated 25,000.
You can also send your file to the tech support as noted in the Tech Support message above.
Hi
I need help. I can't enter line 12 please help me
Thank you
Did you have a chance to read the thread above, @Van2ngoc ?
Override did not work for me. Neither did two hours on the phone with tech support. If you are section 179 is coming from a K-1. This is what you have to do. Go into your K-1 and specifically edit line 12 C for the California column so that the amount does not exceed $25,000. If you have multiple K ones such as you and your wife have received a K-1 and combined the amounts exceed $25,000 then you may have to reduce the amount in one K one so that the combined ones do not exceed $25,000 in the California column.
if your section 179 is not from K-1, then I can’t help you but see the attached image for the clunky instructions from TurboTax.
