Form 1099-R Item 9a

I believe Turbo Tax has a programming error when requiring a positive entry in Box 9a when the distribution is not a Total Distribution. Payer's leave this box blank. Turbo Tax forces an entry greater than .01 and does not allow an override. My opinion.

Box 9a should not have an entry in it if it is left blank on the form.  Leave it blank - do not try to put a zero in the box.  The system reads the zero as an entry and tries to correct it.  You only need to enter the information that is relevant to your taxes.

Turbo Tax forces an entry even when left blank (no "0") input. No override capability. I believe there is a programming error.

Delete the Form 1099-R and re-enter manually.  This should correct the problem.

The problem is with the Form 1099-R itself.  Despite the fact that the payer should never put a zero in box 9a, some do instead of leaving it blank.
