For get to claim origination fee on my first loan

I did the refi for my primary home in 2020, the home was bought in 2012. I just realized that origination fee is deductible, so I did not deduct the origination fee for the first loan in 2012. Can I still get it back or just put it in 2020's tax form since the first loan is closed in 2020.

For get to claim origination fee on my first loan

is the origination fee has to be deducted in the year that the load was started?

Yes, the loan origination fee (points) on your primary mortgage has to be deducted in the year you take out the loan. If you refinance it later, the refinance points are deducted over the life of the loan, but that doesn't apply to the points on the original loan.

It is too late to amend your 2012 tax return, so you cannot deduct those points now.
