Finally got my T Tax to install after talking with support

So I had the two DLL files missing error.....finally worked thru the maze to talk to someone and in order to help me they needed to share my screen.....But, I was on Edge, not Chrome and it wouldn't work....so I installed Chrome....and when we went to the install process again, lo and behold, it worked.  The only thing I did was install Chrome and voila!  Try it.

Thanks for reporting.  Was it the VCRUNTIME140.dll & MSVCP140.dll  files?

TurboTax is written to work on Chrome and just changing to Chrome often solves many issues.

The Chrome browser itself had nothing to do with correcting the problem.  2023 TurboTax requires that the x86 version of the Virtual C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft be present on your system and inappropriately fails to install it if not present.  The Chrome browser also requires that this package be present and Chrome properly installs this package when not already present.

The latest Virtual C++ Redistributable package that the 2023 TurboTax installer fails to properly install is available from Microsoft here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

TurboTax Customer Support apparently finds it easier to tell someone to install the Chrome browser than to tell customers to install the Virtual C++ Redistributable which the 2023 TurboTax installer should have done automatically.

I am going to suggest these steps below. I think you might be having an issue other users have experienced with installing when using Windows 10.

  1. Type "environment" in the windows search bar.
  2. This will bring up "Edit the System Environment Variables" as a match.
  3. Clicking on it takes you to the "Advanced" tab of a dialog box titled "System Properties."
  4. Near the bottom of the dialog box, click on the pushbutton labeled "Environment Variables...".
  5. This brings up a separate dialog box that shows the current values for user environment variables at the top and system variables at the bottom. In the list of user environment variables, you should see both TEMP and TMP, and their current values.
  6. Click on each, then click on the "Edit..." pushbutton.
  7. This brings up another dialog box in which you can change the "Variable value" to "C:\Temp" (be sure to change the variable value, not the variable name).
  8. This folder must, of course, exist for this step to work properly.
  9. OK out of all the dialog boxes and retry the install.
  10. Environment variable changes take effect immediately, so if this is the only change you make, it's not necessary to reboot.

Finally got my T Tax to install after talking with support

I tried the environment variables, installing the VCs and Chrome.

THis appears to work (from CatinaT1)

This should help:

  1. Log into your Intuit account.
  2. Add the key from your cd to your account.
  3. Downloaded the software package from Intuit.

Hello, I tried the environment variable changes to C:\Temp and no luck, it's crashing often.

I'm windows 10, fully updated and cleared my cache on chrome.

I'm using tutbotax Premiere 2023 and issues are:

1) Impossible to my W2, so I typed it manually into the W2 form (after searching for W2)

2) State tax refund was pulled correctly from 2022 import, but shows zero for 2023 even though I had a number like $1142.  It's telling me my 2022 state refund is not taxable, not sure if it's a bug.  State is Oregon.

3) I managed to import my consolidated 1099 for Schwab brokerage and it logged into my Schwab account and found the correct data.  But there was no "done" option and it it asks me to import another brokerage.  And after viewing the income section, I found there is no import for Schwab I just did.

I can call support or but another software.  I used Turbotax 20 years and this is the worst nightmare, never had so much trouble in 20 years.

Can you tell me if there is anything specific for the 2023 Premiere download version which I downloaded from my Intuit account and fully updated ?

And my Windows 10 has i7core cpu, 32GB Ram,  fully updated with latest windows update.  I have no clue what's going on, cannot import W2 , and after manual import of 1099 brokerage the data gets lost.

Please help with whatever you know for the 2023 Premiere download version.   I will try to restart and reinstall one last time.
