I was asked Single etc. I chose single. There was never an option for Head of House hold once I made my  choice. I chose dependent as well. Does that mean I am still head of household and single. I am confused.

You do not mention who your dependent is---only certain dependents can be qualifying dependents for head of household filing status.

Head of Household filers can have a lower taxable income than single filers. They also can have greater potential refunds.

To qualify, you have to meet certain criteria. To file as Head of Household, you have to:

• Pay for more than half of the expenses for a qualifying household
• Be considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year
• Have a qualifying child or dependent
