Whatever happen to one free state tax?

What version?  In the Online version State is only free in the Free Edition .

In the Desktop CD/Download program Deluxe and above You get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is 19.99 to efile, usually goes up to 24.99 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

When I first started using TurboTax Deluxe, you got one free filing of state tax.

I only get $108 back. Why would I want to pay 24.99 (23% of the return) to get it back?

The additional charge of $24.99 is to Electronically File your state return.  You can avoid this fee, by electing to file your state return by paper instead of Electronically Filing it.
