The federal e-file failed to transmitting. It requires to check the entry on how many days rented out per year for my rental property. I filled in the correct number, the same number used the work sheet. Then I tried the e-file the federal tax. Somehow the program doesn’t like the number I put in. It failed again. I have tried to update the program several times and the transmitting process still failed.Any help?

Did you rent the property all year? If so, did you check that box? If not, did you also enter personal use days (this is uncommon)? If so, is the total of rental days and personal days less than or equal to 365?
Run Federal Review / Smart Check again and see if the software provides more information on the e-file error. In some cases, Smart Check will bring up an embedded window of the form in question, which helps you check where the issue actually lies.
Thank you Patricia V
Yes, the number of days I used is 365 in both Schedule E work sheet and “check this entry”. I also went to Smart check. The program asked the same question. That is how many days you rented out your property. I typed in 365. At the end I click the transmit the e-file to both federal and state tax returns. The program went to “check this entry” again. I typed in 365 again. The transmission of the e-files failed again. Like infinite “Do Loop”. It must be a simple correction of the program I guess. Thank you so much for your help.
It depends. When you are in the rental activity did you select that it was rented all year? It may be that simple so double check this information in your return. TurboTax will automatically enter 365 days if the correct answers are indicated.
Thank you Dianne. I went through your suggestions. I can’t find Days Rented in Rental Properties Info. section. Very strange!
Any other advices? Thanks in advance.
Please confirm what software you are using (TurboTax Online or TurboTax Desktop) and if you like you can send a token.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.
Thanks again Dianne.
One more question: in Smart Check to fix errors. The program asked “Check This Entry” to input the number of days rented. I input 365 in the box and hit continue button. Somehow the program doesn’t remember this fix.
anyway I will follow your instructions to send the file to you by taking out our personal information.

Thank you for submitting the diagnostic file. I have reviewed it on my Mac.
The Schedule E and Worksheet show 365 fair rental days and 0 personal use days as per your answer in the questionnaire.
I did also see "check this entry" in the final review regarding the number of days rented. I tried deleting and reentering the number of days, both in the review questionnaire and on the form directly, but the "error" still didn't clear review.
You mentioned that the returns failed to e-file. I noted that the File section currently shows that "File by mail" was selected. (Did you change the choice after the return failed to e-file?)
We are reporting this issue for further investigation and resolution. I tested a different TurboTax Desktop return I have in Windows and did not get this error, so it appears to be unique to the Mac version. I don't have an estimate as to how long it would take to get a fix done and deployed.
In the meantime, you could keep the choice to print your return and file by mail. If you continue with that choice, TurboTax will alert you that the return has "errors" in it; however, the number of rental days "error" is the only one that came up in Review so the return is presumably correct per your entries.
Another possible option would be to move the current TurboTax .tax file to a Windows computer. You would need the Windows version of TurboTax for this to work. If you are interested in pursuing this option, contact TurboTax customer support and explain the situation to see whether you could get a Windows download without an additional purchase.
Thank you Monika.
Since you don’t know how long to fix the bug in transmitting federal tax return, I decide to file for both federal and state taxes return by mail. Would you please ask your company to refund my $15.00 charged to transmitting California state tax return file.
I have been royal TurboTax user for many years and do remember that the last year tax return did not have this bug for Mac version.
Since Community doesn't process refund requests, here's how you can request a refund through your TurboTax account.
Looking further into your return, it appears as though this error is on your CA Schedule E, not your federal Schedule E. On the CA Schedule E, you have 365 days for rental and 365 days for personal use. To resolve the error, you will simply need to remove the 365 days for personal use.
The easiest way to do this on TurboTax Mac is to go to forms mode, then scroll down to CA and look for Schedule E. You will see a red exclamation point next to it. Remove the 365 days in the personal use box and your error should resolve.
Thank you Vanessa. You are great 👍!
the problem is solved. Both e-file federal and state tax return have been transmitted successfully. All my frustrations are gone.
Thanks again.
