I started a new return and Turbo Tax looked for last years return to get a lot of my info. That is normal. But there is a Serious error. As I started working on the return I got to the section for entering my state refund from last year. The program should know that already. It has my return from last year. It asked a bunch of questions and then insisted that last year I took the standard deduction. I did not! I itemized!!. Then as I started to enter more information for example taxes paid and AGI, many of the numbers that were already filled in were just Wrong!! What is going on ?? Has anyone else had this problem?

many users have multiple accounts. you may be using a different account than last year. no info will transfer.

I don't understand. I have TT 2022 on my laptop after buying the CD and installing it. This problem is only happening on a return I'm helping a friend with. My return works fine. I helped her last year and she has the .tax2021 file on her computer. We would have preferred to load TT 2022 on her computer but she does not have a CD drive. (Since I bought it I thought I can load it on up to 5 computers.) She emailed the .tax2021 file to me. I started TT2022, started a new return and located her 2021 file to get things started. Her data *appeared* to transfer over. Her name, address, employers all were loaded to the new file. Then things got strange. As I said above, when we got to the state refund section, the program began asking questions I have ever seen. For example “Taxes paid in 2021”. I found that odd because the program has access to that info from the 2021 return. Then thing got worse when some prepopulated numbers were just wrong. Then the program stated that she had taken the standard deduction when that is not correct! She has a large mortgage and itemizes deductions.
Can I do a 2022 return for a friend by emailing a .tax2021 file to my computer and starting with it?
Can I load TT2022 on a computer without a CD drive if I purchased it on a CD? If so, how?
Thank you
When you downloaded her return from the email, did it download as a .pdf file or a .tax file? As this can make a difference in its importing. @Kipmc7
I email her .tax2021 file. I think it might have been better to use a thumb drive to copy it from her computer to my computer. Have you heard that?
Moving it by email or using a thumb drive should not make a difference. But emailing is not safe or secure. Maybe she has another .tax2021 file on her computer.
you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2021". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2021 installed? Try opening 2021 program and see if you can get your 2021 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. See if it's the right one. Then save it again with a name and place you can find. Go to File - Save As.
SOLVED!!
I made a mistake and was not using the completed tax file from 2021. I had saved the file in the TurboTax/2021 folder but that was not the final version. The final version was on the TurboTax folder but not the 2021 folder. My mistake.
Once I used the correct final version everything worked properly.
