Turbo tax is double counting W2 and schedule X other income.
I had a W2 with Non Qualified Plan income reported on a W-2
Schedule X instructions for line 4 specifically state Other Massachusetts 5.0% income reported on U.S.Form 1040, Schedule 1, line 9 and NOT reported elsewhere in Form 1, lines 3 through 8 or Schedule X, lines 1 through 3 must be reported in line 4 of Schedule X
Since I have a W2 Turbo tax has included it in Line 3 of Form 1. The problem is it has also included it in Schedule X Line 4 which then transfers to line 9 on form 1 thus double counting the income. Since the instructions clearly say not to report on Schedule X line 4 if already in Form 1 Line 3
When will turbotax correct this error?

Do you have the same amounts in Box 1 and Box 11 on your W-2? If so, that could account for the doubling of income in Massachusetts.
It's counting the Box 1 as wages and the Box 11 as Other income on Schedule X.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, you can delete Schedule X from your MA return.
Yes I am using TurboTax Desktop however I can not delete Schedule X as I have entries on other parts of Schedule X.
I had the same W-2 last year with entries in Box 1 and Box 11 and Turbotax Desktop 2021 handled it correctly on the Mass Schedule X .
This is a coding error in Turbotax 2022 that needs to be fixed.
Can someone report this to a coding person at Turbotax for resolution
Thanks
In testing this issue in TurboTax desktop, you don't need to Delete Schedule X. Try this workaround instead.
Use your cursor and the magnifying glass next to the amount on Line 4 of Schedule X to open up the Supporting Statement. Delete this statement and see if this resolves your issue.
That appears to be a workaround. However the underlying problem still exists since the majority of people would not catch the double count. When will Turbotax fix this error?
I spoke too soon. While yes I can remove the worksheet, when I go to do the check prior to submission it flags an error and repopulates the worksheet. SO THE ERROR IS STILL NOT FIXED. I await further info from Turbo Tax
This issue was under investigation and was reported as Resolved on 2/10/2023. Please try Updating your program.
Good Morning. Just letting you know the error has NOT been fixed. This morning I downloaded and installed the latest updates and while it says it changed some MA forms it did NOT correct the income double count described in Schedule X calculation. I must say this is becoming very frustrating as I can not file my taxes and I can only imagine the number of people who are overpaying their MA state income tax because of this error. So if you could please let us know when a correct resolution will take place it would be much appreciated.
If the update did not solve this, please delete the current state return and add again, so it can pull fresh data from the federal return.
In TurboTax Desktop
If this is TurboTax Online
Nope didn't work. I deleted all the Mass data as you advised and when it reran MA the same double counting error happened The State Schedule X keeps counting the W-2 wages as other income.
As of today 2-17-23 this problem is still not fixed. As a test I only entered 1 W-2 which had data in Box 1 and Box 11. When it transfers over to MA state forms it continues to double count by including the wages in Form 1 and Schedule X even though the instructions clearly state if its in the W-2 wages it doesn't get included in Schedule X. This was calculated correctly in 2021 so I don't see what Turbotax can not get it right for 2022. VERY Frustrating that I am told its fixed when it is NOT
Not all MA forms are ready. I wonder if the problem lies in the Schedule INC not being ready yet. See here. Once the form shows supported, please try again.
You are right, it should not be going to the sch X.
This error is still NOT FIXED. Turbotax continues to populate Schedule X line 4 with "Pension or annuity from a nonqualified deferred comp. plan or nongov sec 457 plan" Even though it is reported on a W-2 Line 1.
Prior year editions of Turbotax didn't have this error
Will this ever be fixed or does Turbo tax intend to have errors in all MA filings?
Very Frustrated
I am having the same problem as being described in this text string and have been waiting for a corrected response or update. This has not come and it is frustrating to have this issue with no estimate of the correction time line.
Turbo Tax - please provide a clear time line so that we can submit correct tax forms.
Thank you.
I am having the same problem. Not sure what Turbo Tax is doing to fix this problem. Has anyone found a solution for this? Thank you
