ERROR CODE 630

This so frustrating I just repurchase Turbotax 2019 because I kept on getting error code 630 I spoke with Turbotax support and they said that they could not help me because they did not had license code anymore available for 2019.  I repurchase the software and still getting the same error code. I followed every step uninstall and reinstall, renaming and I still get the same error and have not been able to get access to my old files for 2019.  Does anyone have other solutions.

Same issue with me.  I've installed TurboTax 2029 and 2020 from CD and entered the provided license code from the sleeve.   Getting error code 630.   Might be inactive, but no information is provided as to options.    Anyone able to get their Turbo tax running with Error code 630?

Your license code is a 16-character combination of letters and numbers (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) that verifies the software and allows you to finish installing and begin using TurboTax.

Here's where to find it:

TurboTax Download

If you downloaded TurboTax directly from an authorized retailer, your license code should be included in your order confirmation. Check your email or your order history. If it’s not there, you’ll need to contact the retailer directly.

If you downloaded TurboTax directly from TurboTax.com, you can find your license code:

  • On your order confirmation screen
  • In your email confirmation
  • In your Downloads folder:
    1. Go to turbotax.intuit.com.
    2. Hover over Do it yourself, then Doing your taxes with a CD/Download, and then select Access my downloads.
    3. Sign in to your account. Make sure it's the same one you used to purchase the software license.
    4. Select Downloads and look for your license code under the TurboTax product name.
    5. Return to the install screen and enter the code to continue.

If you downloaded TurboTax through TurboTax Advantage, you can find your license code:

  • In your notification email
  • In your Downloads folder:
    1. Go to turbotax.intuit.com.
    2. Hover over Do it yourself, then Doing your taxes with a CD/Download, and then select Access my downloads.
    3. Sign in to your account. Make sure it's the same one you used to purchase the software license.
    4. Select Downloads and look for your license code under the TurboTax product name.
    5. Return to the install screen and enter the code to continue.

TurboTax CD

If you're being asked to re-enter your license code after a software update or multiple times, follow these instructions.

Still can’t find your code? Contact us.

It is a pain to work with Turbo Tax. I have just experienced the same error code 630. I had bought this from Amazon and now they would not unlock the software.

This is worst than double jeopardy!

I WILL NEVER BUY TURBO TAX, AGAIN!

I AGREE I STOP USING TURBO TAX TO DO MY TAXES.  I have used Turbo Tax since I can Rembert I believe since 2003 if not more.  But since I started having these problems for the last 2 years, I do not use it to do my taxes.  I did not saved a .pdf file of my tax returns and know I cannot access these files.

I  appeal to Intuit president Sasan Goodarzi

to insist that Product, Legal, and Engineering comply with the Turbo Tax EULA T/Cs and reactivate and restore, the license key activation servers for current and future unsupported Turbo Tax versions, specifically 2019 and later, moving forward.  TT software users should always have "the ability to" use their unsupported product, in compliance with the EULA that they virtually signed at activation time.

Why cause it's the right thing to do for your customers.

Shutting down activation servers or expiring activation keys constitute EOL events and are part of an EOL process, which Intuit has failed to articulate in violation of the 2019 or 2023 EULA and thereby in violation of for the entire customer user base.

2 days ago I was reworking my 2019 return for an audit, next month.

today, after a forced software update, TurboTax reports error code 630, a bad license key,

I reviewed the forums, finding useless solutions and exasperated TT users.

I called support who said the product isn't supported, they quoted a 2023 EULA, (not applicable to 2019 EULA).  The Customer Success team's key generation tool has been disabled for TY 2019, they were told that the 2019 license activation server was shut down.

Intuit has failed to define a transparent End-of-life (EOL) process and conflates EOL with End of Support, legally they are different.  There isn't any 'webpage' or 'announcement' that unambiguously declares consequences to an end user experience or the EOL impact on that user, their ability to use the program, and/or retrieve his/her data and IP invested in that data.

It's short-sighted, upsetting, makes little business sense, and is easily fixable.

This decision is flawed, violates the law, and damages customer goodwill.  I've been a customer for more than 20 years.  Intuit has deliberately broken the use of my product by violating the EULA.

A Turbo Tax software user wants the ability to

-create, edit, file, review, undergo audit, review, and amend any return for a given tax year

-get a new activation key from the support staff anytime, a key expires or is lost

- work with a support team who is enabled and eager to help the end user get their returns done or revised, with tools and access to keys, engineering resource

- actions that promote customer goodwill not frustration and palpable lies.

- solutions that allow TT users to get on with their tax work

A Turbo Tax software user doesn't want

-license keys that expire, or license keys at all if possible.

-license key activation servers that are shut down after 3 years, when the IRS audits people for up to 7 years

(this is why you get an error code 630) and violate the EULA, which specifies no transparent EOL terms or conditions, merely

-support teams who quote T/Cs from EULAs to justify shutting down the activation server and breaking the application (EOL event), breaking an end user TT application isn't the same as end of support EOS event,

support teams who have their key generation broken so an earlier tax

- EULA legalese and false justifications for Intuit policy decisions, which do not help or consider the end user.

Intuit has decided to cripple ''end users' by disabling their license key activation servers and taking away the key generation software from their support teams. don't inform us that TT huts down the license key servers that process activation after 3 years.  So they deliberately break the product and make the product unusable.  Error code 630

Please fix this.. .

It looks like you are trying to get the attention of Intuit corporate.  Your letter posted here in the community forum is unlikely to be seen by anyone at Intuit.   Maybe you have already done so, but I can tell you how to send it directly to the Office of the President of Intuit.

the letter is for the community

if you read my post, you'd see I'd already filed a case with OOP

I don't want community members to waste time on this bug as they've been deliberated Bricked. I also want forum members to escalate the bug to get the attention of OOP.  if you're annoyed with poor program behavior and BS, then file a ticket.  thanks for the link, perhaps others will post their issues there as well.

Generally, these forums are badly organized and organic, they aren't FAQs and don't provide 'problem' 'symptom' 'solution' 'outcome' format, so end users can quickly fix issues, instead one has to scroll through hundreds of pages, and no consolidation or summaries are provided anywhere with containers of relevant links. Every reader wastes minutes, looking through multiple articles for their particular problem.

I bought a CD off of Amazon and the case was sealed.  Opened and installed from USB since the computer I wanted to use it on did not have CD drive.  Tried the 14 digit activation code form the TT deluxe insert  in the form of [product key removed] and NO go.  Error code 630.  Come on TT fix this crap.

And the funny thing about product key removed was I put it in the form of all X's.

What tax year did you purchase?  A 14 digit license code was only used on the 2019 TurboTax software which is no longer supported.

TurboTax uses a 16 digit license code for software from 2020 thru 2023.

For the community, the office of the CEO and the CEO chose not to support TT 2019 by providing a valid license key to permit access to my Tax Return data, 7 years is the IRS audit window not the 3 as some commenters have mistakenly offered.  I was forced to reconstruct my returns with a private Tax Accountant. I have ended my 27-year relationship with TT. - kurt

Bye. but before you go. make sure to make full pdf copies of all the returns you can. sooner or later those tax files will also show error 630 when you try to open them or opening will fail without an error message,

I was also told by tech support today that it is "Impossible" for them to access your taxes!!

I have my Turbo Tax File, I have the software, I have a license that I paid for.

If I try to install the software I get error code 630.

THis is because they non longer support 2020 or older.

Basically they turn off the server side license validator for older versions.

In my opinion this is beyond unethical.  This would be illegal in Europe under GDPR from my understanding.

At MINIMUM they should at least allow for data transport, and allow you to export your returns to PDF.  If it is only in the turbo tax format your out of luck.

Holding customer data hostage, then effectively executing the hostage seems beyond the pale.

If you are going to support the software anymore, why not just provide an unlocked version for people to use for old data?  Completely locking customers out of their data is absurd.
