I installed TurboTax Desktop for 2024 taxes just fine in early February, but yesterday I went to start doing my taxes. I get an error dialog box "Error: 1008" with two options (see below). If I select OK, TurboTax just closes and I have to start over. If I select "Click for Solution", I get a page from support.turbotax that starts by saying that is an invalid URL (see below). I have contacted Turbotax but it is not resolved.
I have "Uninstalled TurboTax, and reinstalled, getting the same error - but on the reinstall, it never asked for the key code, so I am "assuming" that is stored in a registry that did not get cleared.
Still no solution, but I have found in EventViewer in Windows the following "Application 'C:\Program Files\TurboTax\Individual 2024\64bit\TurboTax.exe' (pid 14136) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID.."
If you don't know the answer on how to resolve, do you know how to get in touch with someone in product support, since this is not a tax issue but instead is a product issue.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Error 1008 can refer to out of memory. Close all running apps except TurboTax from the Task Manager.
You can Contact TurboTax Support, where the techs can look into your computer.
I have already talked to people at [phone number removed] twice and had two separate case numbers assigned without resolution. Yes, I was told 1008 stands for out of memory but I have 10 GB unused memory, and 300+ GB extra hard disk storage space.
They cannot connect to my computer thru TurboTax since I have no access to the Menu when the Error 1008 message comes up.
I believe some file is not being cleared as when I do an "Uninstall" and then "reinstall", it automatically reinstalls Kentucky as the base state return. Also, when I hunt around in my system, I find a file at C:\Users\cafos\AppData\Local\Intuit\Common\Authorization\v4\Logs\IntuitAuthLog.txt which shows the following type of messages:
TurboTax PID(12516) TID(11) 2024.47.20.31 3/4/25 11:40:34:273 AM WARNING Intuit.Spc.Authorization.Internal.DataStorage.LocalSecureDataAccessor "Encountered CryptographicException (Key not valid for use in specified state.
) when reading data."
TurboTax PID(12516) TID(11) 2024.47.20.31 3/4/25 11:40:34:384 AM ERROR Intuit.Spc.Authorization.Internal.DataStorage.LocalSecureDataAccessor "System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Key not valid for use in specified state.

Please try the steps in state install/e-file update loop.
Go through all of the steps from the beginning until the end. There are steps to uninstall and reinstall the software where it clears off the program and then starts the install over from the beginning as if it was never installed. Many times, this help resolve the issues and allows you to proceed.
