Entering Canadian NR4 Interest Income into TurboTax desktop

I currently have my Canadian Bank Interest Income listed on two lines under “Other Income” in theTurboTax Desktop Deluxe DIY Advantage product.  This location in conflict with the need to identify the location (Schedule & Line, or Form & Line) for “Amounts Related to Foreign Financial Accounts, Interest".  In this topic, Page 2 (More Info) asks for Form & Line, or Schedule and Line for this amount, but using “Other Income” only shows 3 lines, not the 5 I can see on the form, Other Income.

Where do I enter Canadian income that is essentially 1099-INT?

I had Canadian Interest income in 2023, and the desktop version had a check box that allowed me to leave the Federal ID field blank.  That feature (of skipping the bank ID) is not offered this year, and the program complains if left the field is left blank.

You do want to use the 1099-INT and give it a fake id of 99-999900.

Sorry, AmyC -- but when I enter 99-999900 on the Payer's information, Federal Identification Number, the Desktop software responds with "Invalid EIN".  (was 8 digits, not the required 9).

I tried it again but filled in 99-9999900 (assumed the trailing Zero's are important) and the page was accepted.

It still seems odd to enter a bogus FEIN.  Won't that get flagged by the IRS, or does the TurboTax software handle this?

It won't be flagged; the number is not required by the IRS.   The TurboTax software needs something entered to continue through the program, but rest assured, your return will be correctly filed.
