Employer entered wrong W4 information

My employer entered my W4 information wrong so now I owe taxes. I entered 0 for exemptions. They entered 2. Is there some amended form or other explanation form I need to fill out?

Employer entered wrong W4 information

Thank you. I know I'm stuck paying. I was just trying to find out about any forms. I searched for information and saw mention of an IRS form but maybe it was from prior years. I've submitted a new W4 and they promise me they got it in correctly this time. Getting small part-timer paychecks, I never really noticed the federal tax amount was garbage. Lesson learned. First time in 45 years of work life that this has ever happened to me. I guess I'm lucky...?

Sorry, but the IRS won't get involved between misunderstandings betwixt you and employer. Your W-2 reflects info they have. Your return must match. Issue is between you and employer to resolve for the future, past can't be changed.

Sorry it's too late now to fix it for 2021.  Too bad you didn't notice your withholding was too low on your paychecks.   What's done is done.   You owe it now.  Maybe if you owe too much and have a penalty on line 38 you can ask the employer to cover the penalty or split it with you.  But I doubt it.

No, the withholding is between you and your employers.

If a Taxpayer thinks not enough tax is being withheld and the employer does not want to change anything, the Taxpayer can elect to make "Estimated" tax payments to the IRS as well as to the state.
