Why when filed said I didn't qualify for EIC but then I get a letter from the IRS asking why I didn't claim it and stated I may be eligible for more of a refund?

Why did it say you did not qualify?
How much earned income did you have and how much unearned income did you have?
I just went by what turbo said. The letter stated I may be eligible for up to a little over $6000 back.
My earned income was 23,377
My taxes do not show unearned income.
To get over $6,000, you would have to be married filing a joint return and have 3 kids.
For your income level, the credit for single with no kids is $0, 1 kid is $3,010 and it goes up to $6,728 for married filing jointly with 3 kids.
When you use TurboTax, it is best to walk through all sections and answer all questions. This will help you get all the credits you are eligible for.
I have 2 children, married and file HOH. My husband is disabled and doesn't work.
I've been filing the same way for many many years and this is the first year it was missed. I answered all the questions that turbo asked.
By the way, if you are married you can not file Head of Household if you live together. You should file a Joint return even if only 1 spouse works. Joint should be better.
Did you claim him as a dependent? A spouse is never a dependent. You just file Joint.
